Child art
Child art is the drawings, paintings and other artistic works created by people under the age of 12. It is also referred to as "children's art" of the "art of children".
The term 'child art' also has a parallel and different usage in the world of contemporary fine art, where is refers to a sub-genre of artists who depict children in their works.
Scribbling
From about their first birthday children achieve the fine motor control to handle a crayon. At first they scribble. The youngest child scribbles with a series of left and right motions, later up down and then circular motions are added. The child appears to get considerable pleasure from watching the line or the colours appear. Children are often also interested in body painting and, given the opportunity, will draw on their hands or smear paint on their faces.
Later, from about their second birthday, controlled scribbling starts. Children produce patterns of simple shapes: circles, crosses and star-bursts. They also become interested in arrangement and can produce simple collages of coloured paper, or place stones in patterns.

The Convention on the Rights of the Child defines a child as "every human being below the age of 18 years unless under the law applicable to the child, majority is attained earlier".
Child development
Child development is the study or examination of processes and mechanisms that operate during the physical and mental development of an infant into an adult. Pediatrics is the branch of medicine relating to the care of children. It encompasses ages from prenatal to teenagers and even young adults (ages 0-21 years).
Terms for stages of age-related physical development are listed below. Approximate age ranges are shown, but conceptions about the boundaries between different stages of life vary between cultures and periods. The age ranges and terms listed reflect 21st century conceptions in the developed world.
Infant
An infant or baby is an extremely young person. The term "infant" derives from the Latin word in-fans, meaning "unable to speak." There is no exact definition for infancy. Quite often babies are called infants until they reach the age of one. However, babies are traditionally called "toddlers" when they start to walk whether or not they have reached their first birthday.
Daycares with an "infant room" providing care will call all their children in the infant room "infants" even if they are older than a year and/or walking; they will sometimes use the term "walking infant".
"Infant" is also a legal term with the meaning of minor
; that is, any child under the age of legal adulthood. A human infant less than a month old is a newborn infant or a neonate
. The term "newborn" includes premature infants and postmature infants, as well as full term newborns.
Toddler
Toddler is a common term for a child between the ages of one and three years old, although some may consider a toddler as to be between two and five. During this period, the child learns a great deal about social roles and develops motor skills; to toddle is to walk unsteadily. The term cruising is used for toddlers who can not toddle but must hold onto something while walking.
The toddler developmental timeline shows what an average toddler can do at what age. Times vary greatly from child to child. It is not uncommon for some toddlers to master certain skills (such as walking) well before other skills (like talking). Even close siblings can vary greatly in the time taken to achieve each key milestone.
This is the age when they are known as, "the terrible two's", because of the temper tantrums they are famous for. This stage can begin as early as nine months old depending on the child and environment. The toddler is discovering that they are a separate being from their mother or caregiver and are testing their boundaries in learning the way the world around them works. This time between the ages of two and five when they are reaching for independence repeats itself during adolescence. Thus it is very important for the caregiver to be consistent with boundaries and discipline for the child’s safety and the caregiver's sanity through puberty.
