Gulliver's Travels Gulliver's Travels was written by Jonathan Swift in 1726. In the first part of the novel, he talked about Lilliput and Blefuscu which are two neighborly islands in the South Indian Ocean. Lilliput and Blefuscu were meant as satirical portrayals of England and France. Also, Swift described the internal politics of Lilliput. The two major political parties of the day were the Whigs and the Tories. There are very few comic satires in this novel. Lilliput have quarrel which involved more than the breaking eggs between themselves. In the past, Lilliputian broke eggs upon the larger end, but then an Emperor of Lilliput had decreed that all eggs must be broken on the smaller end. There were differences between Big-Endians who broke the eggs upon the larger end and Little-Endians who broke the eggs on the smaller end. These differences had leaded to six rebellions wherein one Emperor was killed, and another his crown. The Big-Endians and the Little-Endian are a Catholic and a Protestants, respectively. In beginning of the 1530s, most of the country changed to Protestantism "Little-Endian", so the Little-Endian became linking with the Church of England and had views of royal authority. Also, Scotland in revolution changed that country to Protestantism. Then, the Big-Endian always immigrated for refuge to France. In conclusion, there were conflicts between Protestants and Catholics and between different branches of Protestantism. The novel had many quarrels of political parties. Finally, Swift talked about Lilliput and Blefuscu which are two fictional island nations. :d7:
