The culture of Saudi Arabia is old and strong .Its roots come from the desert where there isn't much water and food . This makes people generous and helpful towards one another.We see this generosity in many ways,one of which is shown by the camel . This is an animal , called the "ship of the desert", which can travel for many days with just a little food and without any water , and can then drink alot of water (over100 liters) at one time. It can also walk long distances in the sand . These are come some of the abilities that make it a true symbol of life in the desert
The Saudi National Heritage and Culture Festival is held every year at the Jenadriyah ,which is near Riyadh.This annual event is organized by the National Guard ,under the patronage of the King.It reflects Saudi Arabia's commitment to preserving its past and helping each new generation of Saudis to learn about the life led by their ancestors.Thus ,each generation is encouraged to keep up its traditions
The festival covers awide range of cultural aspects .It opens with a traditional camel race. This is followed by many displays of craftsmanship in which potters, woodworkers and weavers show off their wares. Folklore troupes perform the ardah and other national dances .Singers from around the kingdom perform traditional songs.A few figures also take part contests of reading and of composing poetry .There are also many competitive horse races
