The new generation of today has the greatest variety of and access to media than any generation before. This has made it fundamentally different from past generations in many ways. During the last 50 years, access to media has changed a lot from TV’s, Radio and Records to DVD’s, VCR, emails and computers. The large variety of technology such as computers and its cheap cost have provided a bigger access to media. This in someway has effected people in many ways. In this report I am going to highlight the key effects of media on today’s generation.
First of all, people understand and use visual images extremely effectively, but are less skilled at reading and writing texts. They spend less time acquiring knowledge by reading long texts and the continue presence of pictures and videos have created people to be more depended on pictures and moving images to help them learn. Therefore, we can say that TV and the pictured media have resulted in reducing the number of readers among people. Also, young people today has access to media in their bedroom and that would result in spending more time watching TV and parents have less access to their children to monitor them. This would have a negative effect on children behaviour and the way they think.
As a summary, the quickly changing face of technology related to media has resulted in big changes in the way people think and behave. It is really important to understand media effects today in order to control the negative effects on the future generation.
